The untold adventures of Gooding Cater Company!  The rest is still unwritten......

The Adventure Begins....

November 8, 2017

You know in life sometimes the things you think will happen don't and what you least expect happens!  Yes that is us.  We came to Pender Island on our honeymoon and absolutely fell in love with it here.  Went home with nothing that we were passionate about, other than each other of course and decided to move and have a fresh new start and adventure.  What a way to start our new life together, get married, leave everything we know and head for the open road with no jobs but a place to live secured.  We believe that Pender choose us.

With our passion for food and serving others the main part of our lives from our years in the hospitality industry we answered the call.  This is where Gooding Cater Company gets its start and where it all begins.  Come along with us on this adventure and journey.  The rest is unwritten..........

Catering Event

November 11, 2017

Last night was our second catering event!  How fun!!  We loved it!  We ended up cooking for approximately 45 people and it was a Slow Roasted Beef dinner with gravy, creamy mashed potatoes, swede, green beans and Yorkshire puddings!!  Dessert was homemade Panna Cotta from a family recipe.  It was a huge success and everyone was happy!  All of the stress and planning is well worth it when people enjoy the love you put into the process and the cooking to get it perfect.

We now look forward to our upcoming Farmers Markets to change gear a bit and get going on our gluten free baking skills!  So much fun to bake and also to cook.  We enjoy it all!

Thanks for following along with us.....  Until next time.

Gusty Winds and Driving Rains....

November 14, 2017

Here I sit today with the winds raging, heavy rain and stormy waves crashing the shoreline.  I am blessed to be in a place where I can see it all from our front room.  On days like these it's a great opportunity to do recipe development!  Today we are working on perfecting some more ethnic dishes to share with you all in the coming days and hopefully to share with you at a party soon!

Each dish that we create we make a gluten free option to try and match.  I, Becky am gluten intolerant myself so I understand what it feels like to have limited options.  You know that feeling when you're at a party and only able to eat salad or heading off to a restaurant with family and friends and only able to enjoy limited options, which honestly all taste the same after a while, you just want to be able to enjoy the same foods without gluten. That is what we try to create those same options without gluten.  Some are more challenging than others to recreate but some are so close you'd never know unless we told you.  What are your favourite dishes?  Shoot us an email and let us know.

I'm going to enjoy my lovely hot mug of tea then set off to work!  We will share more food pictures with you all soon.  Check out our Facebook page or Instagram to see what's new or coming from our kitchen.

Until next time, stay warm and cozy.

Bon appetite!

Grateful....

December 8, 2017

We have busy enjoying every minute of meeting so many new and wonderful people here on Pender Island.  What a gift to be here and also to be having such incredible weather!!  The picture is a Sunset from our front porch!  We've had so many lately and I love every one of them.  It reminds me that as each day closes a new dawn will be coming and a new day of unknown exploration, adventure, meeting more people, creating new recipes and just enjoying life is on it's way.  Life hasn't always been this way!  Two and half years ago, I Becky, lost my mum to cancer within 6 weeks of diagnosis.  It was a shock to me and tomorrow would have been her 63rd birthday.  Before she passed away I used to just go through the motions of life, work and not really care too much to be quite honest.  Now I don't take a single day for granted, I love those close to me, explore new places and just live in the moment.  One of the things my mum said to me before she passed away was, "I worked hard all of my life and never got to enjoy it."  I vowed in that moment to balance my life.    Life is too short.  It isn't always perfect, sometimes it's messy but there can be a silver lining in it all.

Rest and Old Projects....

January 8, 2018

It has been one busy Christmas!!  Between being sick with colds, enjoying Christmas with family and moving we made sure to enjoy a good few days of rest.  We managed to make sure we headed to Butchart Gardens to see the Christmas lights!  The picture is from our trip. Such a special place to visit at Christmas!

In our culture we are sometimes made to feel like we have to be constantly on the go to feel valid somehow and yet it is ok to have a couple days to just rest, do nothing stressful and just enjoy the moment.  Being rested and refreshed helps you gain new perspective, it prepares you for the journey ahead.

We are now back in full swing, cooking on Friday nights, planning weddings, special events, enjoying the Winter Market here on Pender and of course working on recipe development!!

In 2014 I, Becky started working on a recipe book filled with all sorts of Vegan, Vegetarian and Meat option dishes all gluten free.  I had done all the prep, had my good friend a photographer take food pictures it was well on it's way until my mum passed unexpectedly in 2015.  It has been on the back burner until now.  This year I am going to start working on it again!  We finally feel like we're home now and as we settle in we look forward to new projects, meeting more people, loving those we've met and as always excited for the adventure!

The rest is unwritten..........

Bon appetite!
